Antioxidant skin care equates to guarding the largest organ in your body with armor.

Skin care is important. See, an antioxidant is something that fights against oxidation, which is a key contributor to looking and feeling OLDER. By introducing antioxidants into your skin care regiment you’ll be giving your cells a chance for both protection and nourishment with Vitamins like C, A, and E. Don’t worry, if this sounds like alphabet soup – read on.

“Free” Radicals are very costly:

When we talk about oxidation, we’re talking about free radicals and they’re the enemy of healthy, youthful skin. When left to their own designs, free radicals produce age spots, wrinkles and sagging. They also make you more vulnerable to skin conditions including cancerous ones.

Meanwhile Antioxidants are the knight in shining armor for your skin. Every day you expose yourself to all manner of environmental pollution and the first line of defense is – yep, your skin! That means giving your skin regular doses of antioxidants not only makes it more resilient, but also helps it protect you and keep your skin as healthy as possible.

The Green Tea Treatment:

There has been a lot written about the benefits of green tea, but it’s not just drinking tea that can help you. Wearing it works too! You can literally take a green tea bag, brew it up, then rinse your face with the liquid that’s filled with antioxidants. Use the tea bag under your eyes to reduce puffiness and dark circles. What could be simpler? This is one simple example of how using items rich in antioxidants makes any anti-aging proto-call easier and more effective.

Does antioxidant skin care really work?

In short, yes. Studies show that people who use antioxidant based products (be they commercial or home made) have younger looking, healthier skin. Additionally when coupled with an antioxidant rich diet a person’s overall immunity to sickness and disease improves.

Specifically if you embark on an antioxidant skin care regiment, remember to add plenty of fruits and vegetables into your diet. Anything high in Vitamin E and beta-carotene also helps.

Here is a brief overview of the foods you can consume to support your skin and overall health:

Berries: blueberries in particular for their cognitive support, but also raspberries have amazingly healthy components. Their antioxidants protect you against things like heart disease.

Broccoli, Cabbage, Brussels sprouts: Yes, that item you hid in your napkin when you were a child can help your body and skin stay younger looking. Note that steaming these vegetables is better than boiling to retain the most value.

Cooked carrots and sweet potatoes: these seem particular effective against arthritis.

Garlic: you might need to keep a container of mints handy when you use this, but garlic is simply good for what ails you. You can use a diluted garlic paste on your skin to fight blemishes too. Careful – it can be potent. Do a spot test first.

Grapes: red and purple grapes have wonderful antioxidants.

Spinach: Popeye was right – eating spinach strengthens your blood and body. Whole fresh leaves can be steamed and placed on your skin for a healthy treatment too. Try adding a little extra virgin olive oil if you have dry patches.

Tomatoes: excellent particularly for men’s prostate health. This is one case where cooking the vegetable is better than raw – the process releases more of the positive qualities to your body.

And that’s just a small sampling. Be it soy based foods or whole grains, you can get your daily dose of antioxidants from a lot of good foods, and feed your body and skin from one platter.
