About Resveratrol
Resveratrol is the a natural compound found in grapes, mulberries, peanuts, and other plants or food products, especially red wine, that may protect against cancer and cardiovascular disease by acting as an antioxidant, antimutagen (an agent which counteracts genetic mutation) component that , and anti-inflammatory.
Two really good sources of this compound and two that I am using currently are Vivix made by Shaklee Corporation and OPC+ from IsXperia.
Red wine has been touted as having this antioxidant ingredient. It is a potent antioxidant which helps reduce inflammation, and protects your arteries. Animal research suggests that high amounts of this antioxidant may counteract cell death in the heart and brain, which could mean this compound has even greater potential to prolong life. Limit your wine intake to one 5-ounce glass for women and two 5-ounce glasses for men.
Here are some of the foods that contain this antioxidant.
- Grapes
- Mulberries
- Raspberries
- Blueberries
- Cranberries
- Wine
- Peanuts
Heating these foods reduces the level of this antioxidant. Also removing the skin reduces the level of this beneficial component. It is best to eat these foods raw and with the skin on to get the full benefit.
Due to the fact that it is difficult to eat enough of the foods that contain resveratrol, a supplement is a way to solve this problem.
