Guide To Antioxidants Home » Dark Chocolate
Having Dark Chocolate Antioxidants As A Pick-Me-UpIf you’re feeling a little under the weather, how about having some dark chocolate? You may think that sounds crazy, but its not. It is actually good for what ails you.
The American Medial Association’s journal declared that it lowers your risk of high blood pressure. Now, moderation in all things. Don’t use this good news as an excuse to sit down with a full box of bon bons! Just a little added carefully into your diet is the key (and if you’re watching calories, remember to figure them in). Antioxidant Rich Recent studies conclude that it is rich in antioxidants. Antioxidants are very important to cell health in that they gobble up those nasty free radicals that cause cell breakdown, and in turn disease. Be it cancer or heart conditions, including antioxidant foods and beverages in your daily menu help support overall health and wellbeing.
- White chocolate isn’t really chocolate – it’s cocoa butter with sugar and milk solids – no actual cocoa! - The dark kind begins with cocoa and just adds a little fat and sugar (about 35 percent of it is cocoa solids – which is where all the flavonoids and other antioxidants hide). A recent study looked at people with high blood pressure. The individuals in the study consumed 100 grams of chocolate – dark or white. At the end of the study, those who received the white showed no significant change, while those who had dark had lower blood pressure than at the beginning of the study. In a similar study, the level of antioxidants in a person’s blood after eating chocolate were measured and recorded. Dark chocolate won the antioxidant race against white chocolate and milk chocolate without even melting. So unless you’re not supposed to eat sugars, or are allergic to chocolate, grab that dark type from time to time, and savor knowing you’re doing your body a favor. |
